The résumé
behind the coaching
Practicing the craft of routesetting for nearly 20 years, Cody has dedicated his life to professionalizing, educating, and pushing routesetting concepts throughout the climbing industry. As the owner of both Boulder Union Climbing and Syndicate Routesetting, and as a USAC Level 5 National Chief Routesetter and USAC National Chief Instructor, Cody has worked on projects ranging from local educational workshops and corporate climbing gym consultation to international athlete training and routesetting for the IFSC World Championships.
That work put him on the mats with the very best: Natalia Grossman, Janja Garnbret, the Japanese National Team, and the US National Team. He has watched, at arm's length, exactly how the world's strongest climbers solve problems, manage pressure, and train for peak performance — and he brings that standard to every athlete he coaches.
His BS in Kinesiology from the University of New Hampshire adds the science: movement analysis, motor learning, and training load built into individualized programming rather than guesswork. His studies also focused on non-traditional education — how people learn skills outside a classroom, through experience, feedback, and self-discovery. At the highest levels of coaching that matters as much as the physiology: it's why sessions are built around guided problem-solving and video review rather than being told what to do.

A word from Cody
“I specialize in translating complex movement concepts into practical, athlete-centered coaching — helping climbers of all levels improve technique, build confidence, and perform at their highest potential. With extensive international and national competition experience, I offer a high-performance perspective grounded in risk management, innovation, and long-term athlete growth.”
I take a highly intentional and selective approach to coaching, working with a limited number of athletes so I can dedicate the time, attention, and energy required for meaningful development. By prioritizing quality over quantity, every athlete I coach gets the support, structure, and accountability needed to maximize their progress and achieve long-term success.
